There are a few tips you should learn before trying your luck at fishing; where to get a license, buying tackle, where to fish, learning patience, using the right bait, and most importantly, relaxing and enjoying the experience. Do research to find out the rules set by the Department of Natural Resources in your state. A fishing license can be obtained at most bait and tackle shops and also at stores like Wal-mart, Dicks Sporting Goods, and some K-Marts. A basic rod and a reel with 10 lb. test line can be purchased inexpensively, along with small hooks, sinkers, and bobbers. Simple teardrop weights, rooster tails, spoons, and dry flies are additional tackle for first time fishers to consider. This will be sufficient to get started and tackle can be added as experience is gained.
Bait can be obtained from your local bait shop or some people even dig their own nightcrawlers. When fishing from the river bank, soft crawl or spring lizards are often used to catch smallmouth bass; red worms are used when fishing for bluegill or brim. More experienced anglers prefer fishing with lures such as; plugs, jigs, spinners, or other artificial bait.
Bass fishing has become a great favorite in the U.S. and largemouth and smallmouth are commonly found inĀ freshwater locations, including reservoirs, rivers, lakes, creeks, ponds, and streams. Crappie and sunfish are found in almost any location you choose to fish. After becoming an experienced fisherman, try your hand at saltwater fishing, ice fishing, fly fishing or deep-sea fishing and have patience and enjoy!
