Fishing is a lot more than what you see on TV, what you read about in magazines, and even what you do with your friends on a Saturday morning. Fishing is more than a recreational sport. It’s a big industry and something that continues to be a mainstay in the global business world. When you hear “fishing industry,” you think about everything that has to do with taking fish, culturing, preserving, transporting, marketing, and selling fish. There are three regular industry sectors that the fishing market is comprised of.
Commercial Fishing Sector
First, there is the commercial sector which is made up of the enterprises and individuals associated with wild catch and taking what they catch and turning that into products for sale. This includes the seafood industry which catches all types of seafood as well as non-food items such as pearls.
Traditional Fishing Sector
There is also the traditional sector. The traditional fishing sector is when people catch food as a way of feeding their families. The catches are made for personal use and as a necessity.
Recreational Fishing Sector
Then of course there is the recreational sector. Many people like to go fishing for the fun of it. This makes fishing gear a huge market, as people have to by bait, fishing poles, and other equipment to participate.
