Some of the first things that you should buy are lures. The purpose of the lure is to entice the fish to bite your hook. Fish will perceive the lure to be either food to eat or another fish. If they perceive it as food, they will bit at your lure. If they perceive it as another fish, they will strike out at the ‘fish’ and will be caught on your hook.
Consider also buying flies. As the name suggests, these are designed to look like a fly. Flies are delicacies to fish and they will try to eat the fly – and you will catch the fish on your hook!
You need to get a few fishing hooks. There are different styles: single hooks, triple hooks, and hooks that are barbed. These are attached to your line close to your lure or fly so that when the fish attacks them he will bite into the hook and get caught.
Floats and sinkers round out the items you need in your tackle box. A float will keep your lures and hooks floating on top of the water. A sinker makes them sink below the surface of the water. Sinkers of different weights will make your hook sink to different levels in the water depending on where you want your lure to be and what type of fish you are trying to catch.
There are different types of bait that you can get. Of course there is the proverbial worm. Then there are salmon eggs and plastic worms and plastic insects. The type of bait you use will depend on the type of fish that you are trying to catch.
Get a tackle box so that you can keep all of your fishing gear neatly organized. Having a box also makes it easy to grab your gear because it will be all in one place.
