The art of recreational fishing, or sport fishing as many people know it, has been around for years. Sport fishing can be done just for the recreation of it or it can be done at a competitive level. This also would allow the fisherman to come into a little bit of cash. These things are much different than subsistence fishing which means that there is fishing for survival.
The most common form of fishing when it comes to recreation is that which involves a rod, reel, line, hook, and bait. Net fishing, which is how shrimp and tuna are often collected, does not involve bait, which is anything that can be put on or near the hook to attract fish. Sometimes instead of bait there is something called lures, which look like bait but can be used over and over again, instead of a live worm or something along those lines.
And of course any instance where you are trying to catch a fish with a hook is known as angling. The majority of the fishing you see at the lake or on TV is using a line and a hook. Sometimes those who angle are actually required to catch and release the fish. This depends entirely on the rules of the fishing area or on the wants and wishes of the fishermen themselves.
The kind of fishing you do pales in comparison to the type of fishing that is done on large boats. This kind of fishing is called big game fishing where the fishermen are catching marlin, shark and other types of fish. This also involves trout tickling too which can actually be done as more of a recreational activity. Recreational fishing is popular all over the world and the industry which supports it is making a lot of money off its popularity.
